Professor Munjed Al Muderis is a renowned Australian orthopedic surgeon, humanitarian, and author who specializes in hip, knee, and limb reconstruction and osseointegration surgery. Born in Iraq, he fled to Australia as a refugee in 1999 to escape persecution. He completed his medical degree at the University of Baghdad and subsequently undertook further training in Australia, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Professor Al Muderis is a pioneer in the field of osseointegration. This technology allows for the direct connection between an artificial limb and the bone, enhancing mobility and quality of life for amputees. He has performed hundreds of these innovative surgeries and has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and textbooks on the subject.

In addition to his clinical practice, he holds professorial positions at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney University and Macquarie University. His work extends beyond surgery and academia; he is a passionate advocate for human rights and has shared his inspirational journey in his memoir, “Walking Free.” Professor Al Muderis is frequently invited to speak at international conferences and contributes significantly to training the next generation of surgeons.

  • Patron of the Asylum Seekers Centre, a non-profit organization that provides personal and practical support to asylum seekers in Australia.
